Castro meets Flynn

For my first post I was looking for the picture on which Fidel Castro meets Errol Flynn (1959). Couldn't find it online, but then realised I could upload it myself. Voila!

Sunny vs. Monita

Besides non-violent activism there is another great gift that India gave the world: breathtaking women. Along with Venezuela, the country offered the most Miss Worlds in history.

As a big fan of ‘Desi’ women I go through difficult times, since I can’t make up my mind who my favourite is. I love Sunny Leone, but also have a huge crush on Monita Rajpal.

Sunny – who’s real name is Karen Malhotra – is like good Indian food, real spicy and very hot. But when I watch Monita on CNN Today together with the smell of my first cup of coffee, all those dark aroma’s just accelerate my senses.

Do I go for the naughty pornstar, or the stunning journalist? Venus or Minerva? I’m so confused…

Batman the Musical

Talking with my little brother about Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming movie ‘Australia’ (we both really like his earlier films) he mentioned Tim Burton's silver screen musical ‘Sweeney Todd’ (starring Johnny Depp).

A brief discussion evolved and we came up with the idea to create Batman the Musical. Inspired by ‘Dance of the Vampires’ which I saw in Budapest last summer, I couldn’t help fantasizing on how cool such a show would be.

Main ingredients would be the forbidden love between Batman and Catwoman, Gotham’s dark mystery and perhaps the Batmobile in combination with Queen’s ‘I’m in Love with my Car’. Immediately I searched the internet to see if more people came up with the idea.

I was stunned and thrilled to find out Tim Burton and Jim Steinman actually worked on a Batman musical! Ironically the production was cancelled because of the fiasco ‘Dance of the Vampires’ apparently was on Broadway.

This is really one of those moments you feel like all the puzzle pieces fall into place. Because guess what: the songs Steinman wrote are downloadable from this website dedicated to the musical! I don’t think the upcoming Batman-movie will excite me more than these songs do.

But before we get started...

In like Flynn

How one thing can lead to another. I remember, when I was thirteen, how searching sexy pictures of Catherine Zeta-Jones led to my discovery (and obsession) of Aria Giovanni. Now, randomly searching on Mischa Barton, I ran into this.

Walking to the 2006 BAFTA ceremony she was not only revealing her nipples, but also a swastika painted on Errol Flynn’s Walk of Fame-star. As if it’s not bad enough Hollywood’s greatest swashbuckler never won an Oscar, the ongoing rumours that Flynn was sympathizing with the Nazis are quite shameful.

The theory exists because of a friendship Flynn had in his adventurous life before finally arriving in LA, described in his autobiography ‘My Wicked, Wicked Ways. In many articles these accusations have proven to be false.

In fact, Flynn had strong left-winged sympathies. During his life he showed up on the battlefield of the Spanish Civil War (1936 -1939), supporting the republicans (a.k.a. the loyalists), who were fighting the fascists supported by Hitler.

In his last years he was a strong believer of the Cuban dream. Being a huge fan of Fidel Castro and Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara, Flynn in 1959 made the (lousy) documentary ‘Cuban Story - The Truth About Fidel Castro Revolution’.

Watch this great footage.
